Why Do Most People Fail to Make Money Online? My Personal Take
Ever since I started using the Internet, I have always been fascinated with the stories I have read about young kids who've managed to earn money online.
Stories like, the eBay founders.
The guys weren't even marketing anything at all; just building a marketplace where people can sell and buy stuff online and before they knew it, they were millionaires!
That made me wonder why I never thought of doing something like that before; it seemed pretty obvious and easy to do. However, since I only knew little about coding or managing a website, I became a pessimist and thought that I would be a failure if I tried.
Then one day...
I read a story of a man who sold his website and made a million of dollars from it.
I couldn't resist it at-all.
That was the beginning of a journey. Let me share my experience and thoughts about why most people fail to make money online.
1.) Taking Surveys Several years ago, Hotmail was pretty popular and a lot of people were using it. Also, I often received spam emails inviting me to take part in surveys. There were some that offered points system, and the points could be traded for cash or items.
You can also enter a raffle where you'd try your luck to win one million dollars. I'm not sure if there was really a prize at all, because I tried most of it, and didn't get anything at all.
Also, since I had so much free time on my hands back then, I would take those surveys with the hopes that I may win something. Eventually, I got bored and never won anything. I think I never accumulated the minimum amount of points for payout or the prize.
Because of privacy concerns,
Taking online surveys was something I thought wasn't a good way to earn money online.
2.) Mechanical Turk
During my search for a legitimate online job, I read something about Mturk,
Basically, all you have to do is to carry through a very simple task, such as checking if the description is grammatically correct and makes sense - you can earn from doing that.
Though, just like the surveys, I automatically assumed that the time I was going to spend doing this, would be alright, since I had extra time in the evenings anyway!
What I didn't know at the time was the fact that, it's actually takes a longer process to complete and get paid. Your actions have to be authenticated by the client, and there are instances where they won't even validate it all.
I quickly realized that, unless you're willing to spend a lot of time or give your full effort to the task, you wouldn't be able to make the minimum wage at all. To earn decent money, you could focus on one task, but you have to be really good at it.
3.) Reselling My Products
I gave reselling a try as well, because I thought that all I had to do was to sign up for an account at eBay, open a shop, and people would be flocking to my shop to buy my products.
I was wrong.
The demand for the products I was reselling was pretty low. It seemed like most people were basically uninterested in most of the things I was selling, or perhaps, they were thinking I way yet another scammer, ready to scam them.
I know it's possible to make money on eBay, the fees are pretty steep, and it would definitely take a lot of time before you can properly list your items, take a good picture, ship products, and follow up, just in case something went wrong.
What have I not tried!
I tried being part of the Elance community, hoping that I'd get a lot of web development and marketing jobs. I got approved and I started bidding on some taskes, and thought this was really the job for me.
However, most of the time, I was outbid by a low-budget freelancer, also some professional freelancers had better references than me. Not easy to compete.
I can go on and on. If you search for the term "ways to make money online" don't be surprised if you find an article that lists "200 Legit Ways To Make Money Online "
